Regelneef Cloud Database
It is now possible to switch from a local database to a cloud database. This article explains how this works.
What does the Regelneef Cloud Database involve?
It means that the Regelneef Windows programme, as you already know it, can now also operate via an internet connection, using a cloud service provided by SunBase to manage your data. You can then access your data with Regelneef from any location, provided there is an internet connection. This means no server software for Regelneef is required within your company.
How does it work?
When you switch to the cloud database, your database will be moved to Microsoft Azure (Western Europe) and made available via SunBase’s specially developed web service. From then on, when Regelneef is launched, it will communicate with this web service via a secure connection.
What are the benefits?
In addition to the Regelneef Windows programme, your data will also be accessible to you via the Regelneef mobile app, if desired;
You no longer need to worry about issues such as (re)installation, maintenance, settings and backups of the Regelneef database server software within your organisation;
A backup of your database is made continuously and is retained for 30 days;
Updates are handled by SunBase; no further action on your part is required;
The software is always updated automatically via a new update system, which only downloads files that are actually required. As a result, a new version will often be active within a matter of seconds;
Proactive management of your database by SunBase;
Secure connection between your Regelneef programme and the web service;
The cloud version of Regelneef utilises new technologies when communicating with the web server to run more tasks in the background. This makes the programme feel faster and more responsive.
The change log: changes to various key tables are recorded in a log. This makes it possible to review the history of changes at a later date.
How does file storage work?
For the linked file folders (External archive) in the local version of Regelneef, there are two options when migrating to Regelneef Cloud:
Retain the external archive.
The location of the files remains the same; Regelneef will display the contents of those folders as you are used to.
The disadvantage of this, however, is that the visibility of the files depends on whether the relevant Regelneef user can also access those files via File Explorer. This must then be configured on all systems where Regelneef is installed. The Regelneef app cannot display files from the external archive.Switching to the Regelneef archive
The Regelneef archive is a fully integrated file storage system, allowing files to be accessed from anywhere via the Windows programme or the Regelneef apps.
Regelneef provides a migration tool to copy files to the Regelneef archive in a one-off operation.
How much does it cost?
We see this way of working as the future, which is why this service is offered free of charge as part of the existing subscription fee. The subscription fee includes 10 GB of storage for the Regelneef archive; any usage above this is charged at a small rate per GB.
How can we make the switch?
To switch to the cloud database, please contact us. We will then schedule a time when the local database will be shut down, after which the database will be immediately transferred to the cloud server and configured for use. This takes no more than an hour. After that, every Regelneef programme will be able to communicate via the new cloud database. This requires a small one-off action during start-up.
